Hundreds of AC Milan supporters hurled fake bank notes at Gianluigi Donnarumma ahead of Tuesday night's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Donnarumma, who joined the Rossoneri aged 14, made over 250 appearances for AC Milan in all competitions.

But when the Italian goalkeeper refused to sign a new deal with his boyhood club – said to be worth a reported £130,000-a-week – his legacy was somewhat tarnished.

The 24-year-old would eventually run down his contract in Milan before joining Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in 2021 on a free transfer.

Donnarumma, who is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in world football, came up against his former club in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

And ahead of kick-off, he received a hostile reception on his much-anticipated return.

As you can see from the footage below, AC Milan's ultras showered Donnarumma with fake money to highlight his so-called betrayal.

In addition to the notes containing the words “Mercenary”, “Man without honour” and “Dollarumma”, some Rossoneri fans sported t-shirts with the No.71.

The number is said to mean "man with no values" in Neapolitan tradition.

Away from the fake money incident and it was a chaotic start to the Champions League Group F clash.

Milan Skriniar opened the scoring for Luis Enrique's side with nine minutes on the clock but Milan forward Rafael Leao netted an acrobatic equaliser just moments later.
