Manchester City are set to face Real Madrid in the most high-profile tie of the Champions League round of 16.

Similarly to last year under the new format, UEFA completed the last 16, quarter-final and semi-final on the same day at their headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

There is significant English interest left in the competition, with the presence of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester City meaning that the Premier League has all but secured an extra qualification spot for next season's Champions League via UEFA co-efficient.

Given the seeding and pairing system in place, all 16 teams in the draw knew beforehand that they would be facing one of two potential clubs in the next round.

Liverpool and Tottenham were both in the same section of the bracket after finishing third and fourth respectively in the group phase.

Group winners Arsenal were paired with second-placed Bayern Munich, with Manchester City alongside Sporting Lisbon and Chelsea alongside Barcelona.

Newcastle, meanwhile, were already drawn in one section of the bracket after their play-off win over Qarabag.

Now, the draw has been completed, pitting Chelsea up against reigning Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain, with Newcastle United therefore taking on Barcelona.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will take on Manchester City in one of the biggest ties of the draw.

Liverpool will face Turkish giants Galatasaray in the last 16, with Tottenham drawn against Atletico Madrid on the other side of the draw.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are up against Bayer Leverkusen/Atalanta in another notable tie.
