Bruno Fernandes left a telling comment on Marcus Rashford's Instagram post following his Champions League heroics.

Rashford bagged a stunning brace as he inspired Barcelona to victory over Newcastle United on Thursday.

He opened the scoring at St. James' Park after heading home to score his first goal for the club following his season-long loan move from Manchester United.

With Thomas Tuchel watching from the stands, the England international extended his side's advantage moments later with a thunderous strike from outside the box that was appreciated by Fernandes, who took to social media to react to his former teammate's sensational strike.

And Fernandes doubled down on his praise of Rashford by leaving a comment on the Barca star's Instagram post celebrating his performance.

He shared a series of images of himself in action against Newcastle, accompanied with the caption: "Great way to kick off the Champions League."

Fernandes posted a gif with the quote: “If you’re not taking risks you’re doing something wrong."

Rashford showed Man United and Ruben Amorim what they are missing following his Man of the Match showing against Newcastle.

Speaking after opening his Barca account with two goals, he told TNT Sports: "That is what I am here to do - to help the team win, but also to try to improve and be the best that I can."

Reflecting on his time in Spain, the 27-year-old added: "It is an amazing experience. I have always been a huge admirer of Barcelona, most people my age have watched them play from when we were younger.

“It is amazing football and amazing players. We just want to win as much as possible."

Hansi Flick spoke glowingly of Rashford after his side's victorious Champions League opener.

"For me, this was the first step and he has to make the next one because this match, these two goals here in England against Newcastle for Barcelona in the first Champions League match of the season, I think it’s great, it’s really great," he said.

"It gives him confidence in himself and for me, this is the most important thing, that he knows and shows us on the pitch that he’s a fantastic player.”

Rashford will be hoping to keep his place in the starting XI when Barca resume their La Liga campaign on Sunday against Getafe.
