Evan Ferguson’s three football idols could provide clue to future transfer move

Brighton and Hove Albion star Evan Ferguson has been linked with a transfer away from the Amex Stadium

Brighton and Hove Albion star Evan Ferguson’s three football idols could provide a huge clue to his future transfer move.

Since making his Premier League debut back in 2022 against Burnley, Ferguson has developed into one of the highest-rated strikers in the top flight.

Over the last couple of seasons, the Irishman has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The transfer rumours have calmed down slightly after it was confirmed this week that Ferguson has signed a new contract which will keep him at Brighton until 2029.

However, speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail, Ferguson appeared to give a clue about his potential future transfer after admitting he supported United as a child.

He said: “I supported [Manchester] United as a boy. You had the Rooneys, the Berbatovs and obviously Danny Welbeck. They’ve always had a good thing going with the striker.”

Ferguson also stated that he likes to model his game on different strikers rather than just one.

The 19-year-old said: “You look at one thing that, say, Harry Kane, does, like the way he has such a quick touch and finish. You look at their different characteristics and see what suits you.”

After Ferguson signed his new deal, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi told the club’s official website: “Evan deserves this new contract and he has a very big future ahead of him.”

Seagulls technical director David Weir said: “Evan is a brilliant young talent and we are delighted for him.

“He’s shown his ability at club and international level, after breaking into the team at the start of the year, and we are looking forward to working with him and watching his continued progress.”

Brighton are back in Premier League action this weekend as they welcome newly-promoted Sheffield United to the Amex Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
