Fans were left absolutely stunned by a rare goal that was scored in a Brazilian match on Thursday.

Brazilian Serie A side Fluminense travelled to second-tier Volta Redonda for a match in the Campeonato Carioca.

Fluminense were heavy favourites but neither team could break the deadlock at Estádio Municipal General Raulino de Oliveira in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

But with just three minutes left to play Luiz Carlos Paulino de Carvalho, known as ‘Mirandinha’ scored a spectacular bicycle kick to hand Volta a memorable victory.

Not only was the finish stunning but the assist was equally as good with Bruno Santos de Oliveira latching onto a loose ball with his back to goal before allowing the ball to bounce. Then he blindly used a bicycle kick to send the ball towards goal before ‘Mirandinha’ made no mistake to secure a historic victory.

And fans on social media could not help but give their take on the stunning goal with some even saying the race for the Puskas award is over in the first month of the year.

According to FIFA, the Puskas is awarded to the player who scores the "best goal of the year".

The strike must be an "aesthetically beautiful goal, awarded without distinction of championship, gender or nationality, scored without the result of luck or a mistake and in support of Fair Play".

One said: "I'VE BEEN DAYDREAMING ABOUT THIS MY WHOLE LIFE."

Another added: "Damn Puskas over and its not even a month into the year."

A third explained: "Most Brazilian thing I've seen in my life."

While a fourth commented: "That’s the Puskas wrapped up everyone go home."

With a fifth saying: "I'm not from Brazil but i think this goal deserve to win the Puskas."

A sixth praised: "That’s the Puskas wrapped up everyone go home."

Another said: "That might be the best goal I’ve ever seen. Puskas 2025 is already over."

Of course, there will undoubtedly be more stunning goals in 2025 but Mirandinha will certainly be in with a chance of securing the coveted award.

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho won the 2024 edition of the award for his acrobatic bicycle kick against Everton in November 2023.
