Watford goalkeeper's attempt to save header against Bristol City goes viral, he glitched out

Watford goalkeeper Ben Hamer produced a hilarious delayed reaction to Scott Twine's goal for Bristol City.

Watford goalkeeper Ben Hamer has become a viral sensation for the wrong reasons after his hilarious attempt to deny a goal-bound Bristol City effort.

The two sides played a 1-1 draw in the Championship on Saturday, with Watford going 1-0 up through a penalty from Tom Dele-Bashiru.

The hosts levelled matters not long after through Scott Twine, who climbed above a defender and headed home on his debut after Tommy Conway's effort deflected into his path.

It was a fairly routine goal but the reaction of Hamer in goal is what has made the strike go viral.

The former Leicester City and Huddersfield Town shot-stopper had sprawled to try and save the first effort and ended up on the opposite side of the goal to where Twine found the net.

He was too late to get anywhere near the header and yet Hamer still proceeded to make the most elaborate and theatrical dive even though the ball had already bounced past him.

And predictably, the 36-year-old received a good rinsing on social media after appearing to glitch out.

One wrote: "I haven’t seen selling like that since Shawn Michaels vs Hogan."

A second said: "Me ruining people's day as a drop in goalie on pro clubs."

A third commented: "Didn’t once look at his goal after the first save, just watched the ball in the air. Had no idea that was going in until it was past him."

A fourth was a bit more brutal, asking: "How is he a pro keeper?"

Another added: "Just a tad late."

A final user laughed: "When you go in goal on Pro Clubs."

Twine has signed for the Robins on loan from Burnley and manager Liam Manning saw the funny side in the bizarre first strike.

"I reckon it's the first time Scott has ever scored with a header," Manning said.

"He probably closed his eyes and it went in off his nose."
