Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell made some big calls when asked to pick his top five Premier League full-backs of all time.

After coming through the ranks at Leicester City, Chilwell made his first-team debut back in 2015.

On the back of a few impressive seasons with the Foxes, Chilwell earned a big money move to Chelsea, for a reported fee of £45 million.

Since then, he has made 89 appearances for the Blues, scoring nine goals.

On the international stage, he has been capped 19 times by England.

In a recent interview with the Premier League, Chilwell was asked to pick his top five full-backs in the history of the English top flight.

Chilwell’s first pick was Chelsea legend Ashley Cole, he said: “He was someone I first spoke to when I joined the club and always respected him as a player. On the pitch, he was one of the first full-backs to score goals, and get assists but could also defend. So that’s my reason for him being my first full-back.”

After Cole, Chilwell opted for former Manchester United player Gary Neville. Chilwell described Neville as ‘a leader on the pitch and a leader off the pitch’ and ‘a great professional’.

For his third choice, Chilwell went for another left-back, this time in the shape of Patrice Evra. The 26-year-old said: “I used to watch his game pretty closely. I like the way that he played. He was very up and down, adventurous and seemed like a natural winner.”

Rounding off his top five, Chilwell picked Liverpool duo Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

On Robertson, Chilwell said: “Over the last few years, as a left-back, he’s someone that I’ve respected. I’ve seen what he’s done at Liverpool, and he’s won a lot of silverware there so he’s going to be my fourth choice.”

Speaking about Alexander-Arnold, the Chelsea man said: “I think his right foot, his crossing ability, his range of passing, free-kicks, set-pieces. Technically, one of the best full-backs I’ve seen so that’s going to be my reason for number five.”

Ben Chilwell’s top five Premier League full-backs:

  1. Ashley Cole
  2. Gary Neville
  3. Patrice Evra
  4. Andy Robertson
  5. Trent Alexander-Arnold
