Viktor Gyokeres Instantly Responds to Thierry Henry Offer on CBS Sports

The Arsenal forward spoke to the club's record goalscorer after the Gunners' 4-0 win against Atletico.

Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres accepted an offer from Thierry Henry after the Gunners’ 4-0 Champions League league phase win against Atletico on Tuesday.

Premier League leaders Arsenal made light work of Atletico Madrid at the Emirates as goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli, and a brace from Gyokeres extended the Gunners’ perfect start to the 2025/26 Champions League campaign.

The Sweden international, who arrived from Sporting CP for a reported £64 million in the summer, ended a run of nine games without a goal for club and country with his double, taking his Arsenal tally to five in 12 appearances.

His performance drew praise from head coach Arteta, who claimed Gyokeres “deserved” his goals before focusing on how the 27-year-old has helped his side in “many areas”.

Meanwhile, after the match, Gyokeres was interviewed by the CBS Sports panel – made up of Henry, Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards, Clint Dempsey and Kate Scott – and spoke about how wearing the ‘14’ shirt – famously worn by Henry during his time with Arsenal – “feels” amazing.

The Frenchman wore the number from 1999 until his departure in 2007, scoring 228 goals – a club record – for the Gunners, which helped them win two Premier League titles and three FA Cup crowns under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger.

“It feels like there is a lot of goals in that shirt and there is a lot of goals to come,” Gyokeres told the CBS panel.

“I mean, to be honest, there wasn’t so many shirt numbers available! But when I saw that was available, it was a big honour to take it.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t have Thierry’s number, so I could not ask him if it was okay. But I took it and it is a big honour for me.”

Henry then said that Gyokeres could have his phone number before joking that he’d “send it” to the Swede on Instagram after the show.

The Frenchman also told the Arsenal striker to “honour” the ‘14’ shirt and “score goals” while wearing it, as that’s what the Premier League outfit “need” from him.

Of course, Gyokeres has a long way to go to replicate the feat of Henry, but helping Arsenal to a first Champions League crown would no doubt cement his place in the club’s history.
