Roy Keane says Arsenal 'paid way too much' for Declan Rice in a damning assessment ahead of the Community Shield.

Arsenal shelled out a club-record £105 million to lure Rice away from West Ham United earlier this summer.

They pipped Manchester City to the signing of the England international, with the player starring in the Premier League since making his break through at The Hammers.

He's already impressed Arsenal fans ahead of the 2023/24 campaign as Rice delivered a stellar showing on his debut against the MLS all-stars.

The 24-year-old continued to enhance his reputation following his showing against AS Monaco, where he played in a more advanced role.

His outing against the French side showed his versatility as he looked very comfortable playing as an 'attacking midfielder'.

But former Manchester United captain Keane believes the Gunners 'paid way too much' for him and claims he's 'not worth over £100 million'.

Speaking on ITV, he said: "They paid way too much for him! He's certainly not worth over £100 million!"

It's not the first time Keane has taken aim at the star midfielder as he bemoaned his lack of goals and assists last season.

Rice enjoyed six seasons at West Ham, making 245 appearances for the club.

After guiding the club to European glory in the shape of the Europa Conference League last season, he walked away from his boyhood side to sign for the North London outfit.

How will Rice fare at the Emirates? Let us know what you think.
