An interview in which Noni Madueke named "the biggest club in London" has resurfaced as the winger looks set to join Arsenal from Chelsea – and the footage has become a big talking point amongst fans.

Madeuke is on the verge of becoming Arsenal's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Christian Norgaard.

The 23-year-old England international, who scored 11 goals and providing five assists for Chelsea across the 2024/25 campaign, has agreed personal terms with the Gunners ahead of switch worth just over £50 million.

Arsenal and Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle over a fee, according to BBC Sport, who claim the finer details need to be finalised before Madueke can join up with his new teammates for pre-season.

Amid the news surrounding Madeuke's impending arrival, an old interview involving the winger is going viral on social media.

As you can see from the footage below, Madeuke branded Chelsea as "the biggest club in London" whilst speaking to Football Daily in 2023, which was shortly after he completed a £28.5 million transfer from PSV Eindhoven.

Speaking to Chelsea's official website, he reiterated those comments. "When the interest came from Chelsea, there wasn’t any doubt in my mind that I wanted to come here," he said.

‘I’m from London and I always wanted to get back to the Premier League eventually, so this was just perfect. Chelsea is the biggest club in London but not just that, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world so it was something that really excited me."

“I’ll say it again, it’s [Chelsea] the biggest club in London. But it’s one of the biggest clubs in the world let’s be honest.” - Noni Maduekepic.twitter.com/DyRZLee2I8

Arsenal fans sign petition against the signing of Noni Madueke

It's fair to say the transfer has divided opinion amongst Arsenal fans. In fact, the hashtag #NoToMadueke was trending on social media this week, while a petition was launched on Thursday against his signing.

A user going by the name of Blaze Fifty created the petition.

It read: "Arsenal fans deserve better, we are so close to success and instead of capitalising on the squad we have it seems we are moving 2 steps back just like the 3 previous transfer windows.

"We can surely do better than Madueke & [Viktor] Gyokeres show some ambition repay the fans the same way we've backed the club for the past 2 decades."
