Fans think Mikel Arteta is destined to go 'trophyless' at Arsenal following his response to a question after his side's crushing defeat against Newcastle United.

Arsenal were beaten 1-0 at St. James' Park as Alexander Isak headed home the only goal of the game on Saturday.

He converted brilliantly from Anthony Gordon's scrumptious cross in the 12th minute.

The Gunners are now without a league victory since October 5 when they came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1.

Since their victory over the Saints, Arteta's side have lost to Bournemouth and dropped points at home to Liverpool, drawing 2-2.

After their latest setback, Arsenal fans spotted a worrying trend as they made their feelings clear on social media.

Speaking after the game, Arteta was asked if his team are missing a player like Isak amid the lack of cutting edge in the final third.

But he refused to acknowledge the need for a genuine forward, replying: “I don’t know. I love my players, and I wouldn’t change them for anybody else.”

Arteta's answer to the question during his post-match press conference didn't go down well among Arsenal and rival fans online.

One X user wrote: "That's why he'll go trophyless."

A second said: "And that’s why he won’t win f**k all."

A third added: "He's lying. He'd take Isak in a second lmao."

A fourth slammed: "This guy has completely lost the plot. We needed a lethal striker and instead he got Sterling. If Arsenal end up trophyless he better have some have and leave."

Another fumed: "You arrogant piece of sh*t. THIS IS WHY WE DON'T WIN ANYTHING."

Arsenal find themselves in fourth place following their second league defeat of the season.

They have registered 18 points from their opening 10 games ahead of resuming their league campaign against Chelsea on November 10.
