Big Arsenal transfer now has 'no chance' of happening with deadline days away

Arsenal's move for one of their top transfer targets has 'no chance of happening' with days left in the summer transfer window, it has been reported.

The Gunners are still pushing to add another player in forward areas despite the arrival of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.

The Greece international impressed on Premier League debut during Arsenal's 3-0 win over Coventry, having provided two assists in the Gunners' Community Shield over Manchester City by the same scoreline in the previous week.

But Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta want more, having missed out on Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior at various points of the window.

Forward Gabriel Martinelli is also edging closer to the exit door, with reports emerging over the weekend that Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are in advanced talks to sign the Brazil international.

They have been linked with a move for Turkey star Kenan Yildiz, and reports from TEAMtalk suggested that the Gunners were willing to do a swap deal with his current club Juventus with Martinelli going in the opposite direction to Turin.

Arsenal were said to have been quoted an asking price of at least £50 million for the 21-year-old, who provided six assists and scored 10 goals in Serie A for Juve last season.

But Fabrizio Romano has said there is now 'no chance' of Yildiz - who is now injured - signing for the Gunners this summer, with Arteta potentially having to wait until January unless Arsenal can secure an alternative target.

"Do Arsenal like Kenan Yildiz? Of course they do," Romano said on his YouTube channel. "Who doesn't like Kenan Yildiz?

"But this is not news from today, yesterday, this week. This is a story from April, May, June. Arsenal have always appreciated Kenan Yildiz.

"But Arsenal knew that Juventus aren't selling the player. That's it. End of the story, since May. So no chance.

"And now, with his injury, he's going to be out for some time... so forget about Kenan Yildiz."

Julian Alvarez to Arsenal update as new Atletico Madrid price set

One alternative to Yildiz is Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, who is Arteta's top target for the forward positions.

But the Argentine wants to join Barcelona and, according to ESPN, Arsenal are waiting for encouragement from Alvarez or his representatives that the 27-year-old would be interested in signing for them this summer.

Alvarez was heavily booed by Atletico fans upon his return to the Wanda Metropolitano following World Cup duty on Sunday.

Atletico have categorically stated that they will not sell Alvarez to Barcelona despite his wishes, and have set a price tag of €150 million (around £128m) for other interested clubs.

Spanish outlet AS claimed on Saturday that he 'might settle for a return to the Premier League', having previously been against the idea.

His club team-mates have supported him following the reaction from Atletico fans, with manager Diego Simeone stating: "I think we all need to stay united. Julian Alvarez is with us, and as long as he's with us, we're going to support him.

"It's not a comfortable situation for anyone. Hopefully it gets resolved and we can stay united throughout the whole season."
