Mikel Arteta's summer clear out at Arsenal is official over for now.

The Gunners have seen high-profile stars such as Emile Smith Rowe, Aaron Ramsdale and Eddie Nketiah all leave the Emirates in recent weeks.

Not to mention loan exits for Reiss Nelson, Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi Lokonga to name a few.

But the Gunners have sanctioned yet another departure with one defender leaving the club by mutual consent.

Defender Omar Rekik is set to leave the club, as per Fabrizio Romano, having failed to make a first-team appearance.

The 22-year-old specifically requested that his contract be terminated and is now set to embark on a new chapter.

Having enjoyed spells with Feyenoord, Manchester City and Arsenal as a youngster, Rekik has been out on loan at five different clubs.

That included two spells with Wigan Atheltic, during which he made a total of 25 appearances with the Latics.

Arsenal ended the summer transfer window with five incomings, as their quest for Premier League glory goes on again this season.

Brazilian goalkeeper Neto joined from Bournemouth, a loan deal for Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling was also sanctioned.

Arteta himself admitted he was very happy with the Gunners summer dealing, detailing just what Sterling will bring to his side.

"We have to speak to him. See what he's been doing and how he's feeling," Arteta said post-match of Sterling, after the club recruited him on loan from Chelsea.

"We have to try find quick wins to get him up to speed as soon as possible and [get him] understanding what we're looking for from him. As soon as possible we'll get him involved."

David Raya, Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino also arrived with the latter having already sustained an injury

The Spanish international fell awkwardly on his shoulder during a training session and is now set for a sustained period on the sidelines.
