Mesut Ozil has labelled Spurs "Bottle Job FC" after they became the first side in Premier League history to fail to win five consecutive games despite going 1-0 up in each match.

Ange Postecoglou's side took an early lead on a cold Thursday night in North London, when the returning Cristian Romero headed home Pedro Porro's corner after just 11 minutes.

But after making a positive start, the hosts would surrender their advantage in the second-half. Jarrod Bowen, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions for West Ham, pounced on an error from Romero and Ben Davies.

Then, another defensive error from Destiny Udogie gifted James Ward-Prowse a chance in front of goal, and the England international made no mistake to give David Moyes' side all three points.

West Ham now sit just three points behind Spurs, who previously sat top of the Premier League ladder after 10 games.

A day after the result and former Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to mock the North London club.

He responded to a post from @OptaJoe, who said: "Tottenham are the first side in Premier League history to fail to win five consecutive games despite going 1-0 up in each match and lose three consecutive home games despite going up 1-0 up in each match. Spursy."

Ozil re-posted the tweet and commented: "Who else should be able to break that record? Bottle Job FC is back."

Earlier this year, Ozil announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34 following spells at Real Madrid, Arsenal and Fenerbahce, to name just a few.

The former midfielder, who made 92 appearances for Germany between 2009 and 2018, announced the news in a statement.

He wrote: "Hello everyone, After thoughtful consideration, I'm announcing my immediate retirement from professional football.

"I've had the privilege to be a professional football player for almost 17 years now and I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity. But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, its become more and more clear that its time to leave the big stage of football.

"It has been an amazing journey filled with unforgettable moments and emotions. I want to thank my clubs - Schalke 04, Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Arsenal FC, Fenerbahce, Ba§akwhir and the coaches who supported me, plus team-mates who have become friends.

"Special thanks must go to my family members and my closest friends. They have been a part of my journey from day one and have given me so much love and support, through the good times and the bad. Thank you to all my fans who have shown me so much love no matter the circumstances and no matter which club I was representing.

"Now I'm looking forward to everything that is in front of me with my beautiful wife, Amine, and my two beautiful daughters, Eda and Ela - but you can be sure that you will hear from me from time to time on my social media channels. See you soon, Mesut!"
