Arsenal fans sent into meltdown after spotting Michael Oliver detail which makes Leandro Trossard sending off even more controversial

Arsenal fans sent into meltdown after spotting Michael Oliver detail which makes Leandro Trossard sending off even more controversial

Trossard was shown two yellow cards against Man City.

Arsenal fans have been left livid after spotting a detail from one of Michael Oliver's previous matches before he officiated their side's 2-2 draw at Manchester City.

City and Arsenal took a point apiece in what was one of the most memorable Premier League matches in recent years.

The Gunners took the lead through Gabriel Magalhaes' header to make it 2-1, but were reduced to 10 players after Leandro Trossard received a second yellow card for kicking the ball away before half-time.

They almost pulled off a memorable victory after a stoic defensive display in the second half, but John Stones scored a 98th-minute equaliser to rescue a point for the reigning Premier League champions.

Much of the controversy from the match surrounded Oliver's decision to send off Trossard for two bookable offences.

While the Belgium international kicked the ball away after the whistle had been blown for a City free kick, analysis later showed that under a second had passed between the whistle and Trossard making contact with the ball.

But Arsenal fans are incensed after seeing what Oliver did during Liverpool's match against Nottingham Forest.

Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai was adjudged to have fouled Callum Hudson-Odoi in Forest's defensive third by Oliver, before the Hungarian then kicked the ball into the penalty area.

Szoboszlai was not deemed to have delayed the restart, with the Liverpool star performing an attacking action. No yellow card was shown to the midfielder.

But Arsenal supporters say that a card should have been shown - and believe it highlights inconsistency.

One fan wrote on social media: "I went back and checked, there were 1.07 seconds between Oliver's whistle and Trossard's kick. 1.13 seconds between Oliver's whistle and Szoboszlai's kick.

"Same referee, same offence, same situation."

Another said: "Trossard was already in motion, the ref was behind him. Compare that to any other instances, including Oliver's last incident from last weekend (Szoboszlai) and you can see exactly why Arsenal are frustrated."

And a third fumed: "Michael Oliver, that refused to give Szoboszlai the second yellow card last week, the same ref that gave Trossard a second yellow. Double standard."
