Former Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has secured a new role in football four months after being sacked by the Premier League club.
Slot was sacked at the end of the 2025/26 campaign after Liverpool finished fifth, producing a poor defence of the Premier League title the Reds won during the Dutchman’s maiden campaign at the helm.
Despite links with the Dutch national team and the Fulham head coach role, Slot has remained out of football until now.

The former Feyenoord boss has been appointed to one of UEFA’s Technical Observer Groups ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The role involves observing and analysing matches from a coaching perspective, with UEFA Technical Observers in charge of choosing the Player of the Match for each Champions League game week.
The group also confers and analyses performances when deciding the team, player, young player and goal of the season.
According to UEFA: “During each game, the designated UEFA Technical Observer collaborates with UEFA's Performance Analysis team to gather video and data. The UEFA Technical Observers receive footage from various angles, including broadcast, tactical and high-behind views, which they can review either live at the stadium or remotely.
“All content collected by the UEFA Technical Observers is stored in an educational database and enhanced with advanced video telestration to emphasise key technical and tactical aspects.
“Match data – from numbers of passes, shots or crosses to more advanced data on distances covered, line-breaking passes and pressing – adds further depth in assessing topics like analysis of playing systems, goalscoring patterns, set plays, goalkeeping, counterattacking or the roles of full-backs and inverted wingers.”
And it’s not just Slot who has been appointed by UEFA, with former Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag and ex-Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and Everton boss Rafael Benítez also landing the role.
Ryan Giggs, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Thomas Frank and Sean Dyche have also been appointed.
Explaining the role last year, Solskjær said: “My role entails travelling to matches and analysing the technical quality and tactical approach closely, as well as picking a Player of the Match. It's a really great way of watching the top teams closely and keeping up with trends. I also get to meet new and old football acquaintances in a more relaxed setting.”
The Champions League returns for game week four next week.
