Former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey has suddenly left Mexican side Pumas and returned to England.

Back in July, Wales international Ramsey was signed by Pumas in what was viewed as a blockbuster move by the Liga MX club.

The former Arsenal midfielder is believed to have signed a one-year contract with the Mexican club, after which the club and Ramsey would assess his performances before deciding on his future.

However, things haven't gone quite to plan, as various issues have held Ramsey back during his spell in Mexico, meaning he has made just six appearances, with his last game being in September.

Ramsey's limited participation in Pumas' season so far has mostly been due to him recovering from from hamstring surgery that he underwent earlier in the year.

The situation was made worse following a heartbreaking personal incident involving his dog, Halo, in early October.

Ramsey's beloved beagle went missing on 9 October in San Miguel de Allende, in Mexico's Guanajuato region and, despite the Welshman offering a reward of $20,000 (£15,000) for anyone who can find her, she is yet to be returned home.

"Any news about our Halo please contact us. Big reward for finding her. We are all praying she's OK and can be back with us soon," Ramsey posted on Instagram.

Halo was wearing a dog tracker collar and Ramsey has shared a Google maps location of where she was last seen.

According to Spanish outlet AS, the emotional aftermath of losing Halo reportedly left Ramsey unable to attend training sessions while he death with the tragic loss.

Unfortunately, this, combined with his unavailability due to his recovery from surgery, led to the Pumas front office deciding that it was best to part ways with Ramsey, proposing a deal to terminate his contract.

Ramsey agreed, leading to the 34-year-old deciding to return home to the UK to be with his loved ones.

Pumas have decided to hold off on making an official announcement about Ramsey's departure until the conclusion of the Apertura 2025 season.

He spent just over three months in Mexico, starting in three matches and scoring one goal with his final outing in Liga MX being on September 27, during Pumas’ loss to Club America.

Pumas, currently in 13th place, will now seek to secure a spot in the top 10 and reach the playoffs with two games to go in the 2025 Apertura.
