Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu over a free transfer next summer.

United added Donny van de Beek to their ranks this summer and it looks like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn't done yet.

Bild's Christian Falk claims United are in 'concrete talks' with the Turkish international, who turned down a move to Juventus due to United's interest.

Calhangolu has scored 27 goals during his time in Italy and is known for his quality on set pieces.

Milan want to keep the former Bayer Leverkusen man but talks over a new deal fell through and his contract expires in 2021.

While he likely wouldn't be a regular starter at United, the club are aware Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata's contracts are set to expire in the summer.

Lingard and Mata are squad players right now and United are aware they will likely want more game time.

In terms of attacking reinforcements, United also added Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri to their ranks this summer in addition to agreeing a deal for Amad Diallo, who will join from Atalanta in January.

Competition for places is tough and questions have already been asked of van de Beek's involvement in the squad.

Speaking ahead of his side's crunch Premier League game against Arsenal, the Dutchman vented his frustration at his lack of appearances for the club so far.

"Players always want to play games. Training is also nice, but the games... this is why you're playing football," he said via Metro.

"I think a lot of games [means] we can improve always and I am sure that we will win more if we stay in the focus.

"Arsenal have showed that they have really good players, and I mean we need to be focused.

"We won yesterday [a 5-0 victory against RB Leipzig on Wednesday] and everybody's happy and it's good for the confidence and everything, but now we must go on to that game.

"A lot of big games are coming up now. A lot of games. We need to stay in the focus and then I'm sure that we make more nice wins."
