While Arsenal new boy Takehiro Tomiyasu might be looking forward to tackling the Premier League, the right-back may not be so excited when it comes to taking on Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku.

The Japan international joined the Gunners on Tuesday in a £19.5m switch from Bologna.

He follows in the footsteps of Ronaldo and Lukaku who also headed to England from Serie A sides Juventus and Inter Milan to Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.

But Tomiyasu could be having nightmares about meeting up with those two already - his record against the pair doesn't make for good reading.

The 22-year-old met Ronaldo and Lukaku on five separate occasions during his two-year spell with Bologna, losing all but one of the matches.

He'll still be having nightmares about Lukaku, who scored in all three of their encounters, including a 3-1 Inter win in December 2020.

On that occasion, Tomiyasu attempted to pull Lukaku's shirt in the box in a bid to stop him running onto a cross. The plan didn't quite work with Lukaku dumping Tomiyasu on the floor before putting the ball in the net.

He didn't fare much better against Ronaldo, with the Portuguese striker managing a goal and an assist in their two meetings.

Tomiyasu became Arsenal's sixth summer recruit and promised to 'give everything' for the struggling north London side.

"Hi Arsenal supporters! I'm so happy to be part of the team," Tomiyasu said in a short video on the club's social media pages.

"I promise you that I'll give everything to contribute for the team.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you in the stadium."
