Liverpool midfielder Thiago has been brutally mocked by rival fans after yet another home loss for the Premier League champions.

The Reds suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Wednesday evening and it was their second in a row in the league at Anfield.

Summer signing Thiago started his time on Merseyside well but since his return from injury late last year, results haven't been the best.

Since the Spaniard came off the bench in a 0-0 draw with Newcastle United on December 30, Liverpool are winless at home.

He's been praised for helping 'dictate' play in the Liverpool midfield but some have criticised it for stifling forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

It hasn't taken fans of other teams long to get their digs in on Thiago, who helped Bayern Munich win a treble last season.

Steven Alzate's goal separated the two sides and Liverpool are now seven points behind current league leaders Manchester City.

Despite winning the title comfortably last season, manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted his side are not in the title race this campaign.

He told The Guardian: "The gap to City... I am manager of Liverpool and so I have to say we want to be champions, and of course we do, but you need games for it and we need performances for it and we don't have that.

"We will fight for three points, it is not decided who will get the three points on Sunday, but we have to play better and we will try.

"These gaps are not interesting at the moment. They are the result of the results we had already.

"What we can influence is the next game. Tonight it was not enough. We know that and we have to change that."
