Rangers Fans Troll Celtic Players With Gloating Plane Banner During Game

Celtic players may have heard a buzzing above them vs Dundee United...

Rangers fans arranged for a taunting title banner to be flown overhead, during Celtic's match at Dundee United.

A 3-0 win for Rangers over St Mirren on Saturday meant Steven Gerrard's side would wrap up the Scottish Premiership title if Celtic dropped points against Dundee United on Sunday.

That game was 0-0 during the first half when the Celtic players might have been distracted, upon looking up, by a plane pulling a banner with a message from their Glasgow rivals.

"Can you see us now?! #55titles," read the banner above Tannadice, which had clearly been a scheme set up by some eager Rangers supporters.

Not only will this be the club's 55th top-tier title - their first since the collapse and rebirth of Rangers (so Celtic fans are disputing the total) - but it also halts their rival's run of league crowns at nine in a row.

Both Old Firm clubs have reached nine league titles in a row before, but neither has made it to 10. And even if Celtic do go on to defeat Dundee United, it is only a matter of time before Rangers win the league in Scotland this season.

That will mean Rangers have 55 overall top-flight league titles to Celtic's 51.

The last club to win the league title in Scotland that wasn't a member of the 'big two' was Aberdeen in 1984/85, when Alex Ferguson was in charge.

Which, seeing as Fergie was Manchester United manager for over 26 years and has been retired altogether since 2013, tells you all you need to know about the stranglehold the two clubs have had on the Scottish top tier.

Still, with Rangers set to reclaim the league title for the first time in a decade, the bragging rights are switching sides in Glasgow after a lengthy spell belonging to the green-and-white side.
