Barcelona opened the scoring inside two minutes through an Arturo Vidal header.
The Catalan giants then doubled their lead through Martin Braithwaite's first goal for the club eight minutes before half-time.
Jordi Alba netted Barca's third in the second half before Messi added a fourth late into injury time.
Following the game, Barca boss Setien explained he was very satisfied with his team's performance.
"The feelings are good. There are always things that you want to improve, but I am satisfied with the game we have made," he told reporters per Goal.

"We have had an effectiveness...but we were fine with the ball. We have had a break, but I am very satisfied.
"To be the first game without playing, we could be accused of a lack of rhythm, but I think it is a good start to face this sprint that we have 10 games left. I have good feelings in general."
Barcelona are now five points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table, who resume their campaign this evening against Eibar.
