Lionel Messi's Barcelona Goal Involvement Record Is Incredible

By Mike Parrott
Barcelona scored their 9,000th goal yesterday with Ansu Fati scoring the elusive goal. However, when you look at the goals through Barcelona's 160-year history, Lionel Messi is there a lot.
Barcelona scored their 9,000th goal yesterday in their 160-year history. Youngster Ansu Fati scored the goal against Villarreal in their 4-1 win. However, one player stands out in those 9,000 goals with him also creating two against Villarreal.
Lionel Messi joined the Barcelona senior side in the Summer of 2005 after spending five years in Barcelona's youth teams and their academy, La Masia.
Since 2005, the Argentine has scored and assisted a combined total of 903 goals for Barcelona, which if you can do it, calculates to just over 10% (10.03%) of Barcelona's goals throughout their entire history.
Messi is involved in 903 goals out of 9000 (10.3%)

Messi's incredible numbers have always been on show for the past 15 years with the now-33-year-old on the verge of breaking his own assist record in a season. He is currently on 20 assists in the league, matching his record of 20 in the 2014/15 season.
His goal numbers are on another level from his assist numbers. He has consistently scored over 50 goals every calendar year with 2020 being the first time he will most likely miss out since 2013 when he scored 45. However, the main reason he will miss out is due to the temporary suspension of football due to the coronavirus pandemic earlier this year.
He did it in 2010
He did it in 2011
He did it in 2012 (91 goals!)
He *only* got 45 in 2013
He did it in 2014
He did it in 2015
He did it in 2016
He did it in 2017
He did it in 2018
He's just done it in 2019

His calnedar year of 91 goals which surpassed German legend Gerd Muller will last an incredibly long time. Messi broke the calendar year record back in 2012, beating Muller's record of 85 set.
On this day in 2012, Messi broke Gerd Müller's record by scoring his 86th goal in 2012. He would go on and score 91 goals that year. A world record. pic.twitter.com/VQ3QTv11sa

Messi's insane stat of having his name on over 10% of Barcelona's goal through history will only increase over the last few years of Messi's incredible career.
