FIFA World Cup deletes Cristiano Ronaldo tweet after fans accused them of ‘trolling’

FIFA World Cup deletes Cristiano Ronaldo tweet after fans accused them of ‘trolling’

The official Twitter account faced backlash from fans

The official FIFA World Cup Twitter account has been forced to delete a tweet that included Cristiano Ronaldo after fans slammed them for ‘trolling’.

On Sunday, the 2022 World Cup ended in breathtaking style after the dramatic final between Argentina and France which took place at the Lusail Stadium.

Coming into the tournament, all the talks were about whether one of Lionel Messi or Ronaldo can finally get their hands on the golden trophy.

After 120 minutes of spectacular action, the match ended 3-3. The World Cup dream came true spectacularly for Messi as he led his side to a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over France to lift his maiden world title.

However, Ronaldo’s bid for glory ended in tatters as Portugal were dumped out by Morocco at the quarter-final stage.

On Wednesday morning, the official World Cup Twitter account posted a picture of Ronaldo with his thumbs up, with a caption that read: “Thumbs up if you really enjoyed the #FIFAWorldCup.”

Fans were quick to react to the tweet, with many showing their displeasure over the decision to include a picture of Ronaldo.

One said: “Next level trolling from @FIFAWorldCup.”

Another tweeted: “The person handling this account is a Messi fan boy.”

A third fan added: “ Disgusting. This shows the people posting this are not fair and have always sided Messi. The truth is you can never speak about Messi without mentioning CR7 and vice versa. They’ve made my youthful years and I will forever be grateful that I can tell the new generation about them.”

Someone else wrote: “Even #FIFAWorldCup 's official handle is trolling Ronaldo!”

After a disappointing World Cup, Ronaldo is now without a club after his Manchester United contract was terminated last month.
