An all-time Fantasy Premier League dream team based on highest points scored across a single season has been created – and it features a back three of Liverpool players.

Since the first FPL season took place in 2002/03, an unprecedented amount of people have taken part in the popular game.

In fact, when it first kicked off in 2022, less the 100,000 managers picked their squad for the season. Now, over 9 million fans assemble an imaginary team of real life football players each week.

So who are the highest scorers when it comes to goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards? Well, you may be surprised to learn that former Blackburn shot-stopper Brad Friedel is the first name on the team sheet.

Friedel's impressive tally of 187 points from the 2002/03 season still stands today. In that campaign, he kept 15 clean sheets as Blackburn finished 6th in the Premier League standings.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez almost surpassed Friedel's record when he notched 186 points during the 2020/21 season. The Argentine recorded an average of 4.9 points per game, but it wasn't enough to take spot.

In terms of the defensive side of things, three Liverpool players feature across the backline, with Andy Robertson [213 points] and Virgil van Dijk [208 points] featuring after their impressive 2018/19 campaign.

Robertson registered the highest ever score for a defender when he picked up 21 clean sheets and 12 assists, while Van Dijk registered 20 clean sheets.

To the surprise of no-one, Trent Alexander-Arnold also makes it into the all-time XI for his sensational points total [210] during the 2019/20 season.

He not only scored four goals for Jurgen Klopp's side but registered an incredible 15 assists as Liverpool lifted the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years.

Moving on from the defence and we have an incredibly talented midfield four. After scoring 32 goals and registering 12 assists, Mohamed Salah averaged a staggering 8.4 points per game during the 2017/18 season.

The Egyptian, who picked up 303 points during that campaign, notched the highest score by a player in a single gameweek [29 points] when he scored four and assisted one against Watford.

Joining the Liverpool forward in that team is Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who was the highest-scoring FPL midfielder in 2009/10, bagging a mightily impressive 284 points after 22 goals and 14 assists.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the next player on the list. He registered 283 points and 31 goals as Manchester United lifted the Premier League title in 2007/08 under the great Sir Alex Ferguson.

And finally, a points tally that many will remember most. Then-Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez memorably recorded a total of 264 in the 2016/17 FPL campaign after scoring 24 goals under Arsene Wenger.

The final three. To kick this star-studded forward line off we have Luis Suarez, who recorded 31 goals, 25 assists and a very impressive 40 bonus points during the 2013/14 season.

He may have missed the opening five games of that campaign but the inevitable Suarez made up for it, entering the FPL record books for a [then] record-breaking haul.

The second Arsenal player to feature in the dream team XI is Robin van Persie. The Dutch striker notched 269 points in Fantasy Premier League when he bagged 30 goals and 13 assists in the 2011/12 season.

And last, but certainly not least, we have arguably the greatest Premier League player of all time. Thierry Henry made a name for himself in the very first season of FPL with a points tally of 271.

The Frenchman scored 24 goals and registered a staggering 20 assists' in the league. Unsurprisingly, he remains the only player to ever achieve 20+ goals and assists in the same Premier League season.

Here is the squad in full, courtesy of Twitter account FPL Focal.
