Fans Aren't Happy With The Premier League Player Of The Year Candidates

Virgil van Dijk hasn't been included in the Premier League player of the year candidates and the fans aren't happy with that and others.

Football fans can't believe that the Premier League Player of the Year candidates don't include Cristiano Ronaldo, Virgil van Dijk or Sadio Mane, but James Ward-Prowse has been included.

With the season just over a week from being over, thoughts are turning to who will end up with the end of season awards, although Mohamed Salah has already captured the Football Writer's award.

The Egyptian and Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne are the two favourites for the PFA's award, with Van Dijk actually fifth when it comes to the odds.

However, the Liverpool centre back and Mane have missed out on the list when it comes to the Premier League's own version of the award, with Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold the only two Liverpool players nominated.

The Reds are joined by Joao Cancelo and De Bruyne from City, Son Heung-min from Tottenham Hotspur, Bukayo Saka from Arsenal, Jarrod Bowen from West Ham and perhaps most surprisingly Southampton's Ward-Prowse.

What did Saka & Ward-Prowse do be on this shortlist that Ronaldo didn't do.? He literally had a better season than those 2 put together. https://t.co/XpsBDRIQOB

Ronaldo not listed as a POTY candidate despite winning most POTM awards and scoring 18 goals in the worst United side in Prem history...

You’re telling me saka and ward prowse deserve it more than Ronaldo? Get in the bin man https://t.co/U5lr2O0coI

They hyped Ward-Prowse so much. Man is a nominee for Player of the Season for nothing.

Ridiculous.

No Mane
No Ronaldo
What is Ward Prowse doing there ? https://t.co/GI5UZpLlj8

To have James Ward-Prowse nominated for Premier League POTY and not Alisson or Van Dijk is laughable.

— Anfield Edition (@AnfieldEdition) May 13, 2022

Ward-Prowse has scored nine goals and got five assists for Southampton this season and has continued to be the king of free kicks once again.

The Saints however find themselves in 15th place in the league, which is no doubt why fans don't think the midfielder deserves to be on the list of candidates.

It is quite surprising to find that the likes of Van Dijk, Mane and Ronaldo not on the list considering the brilliant season they've all had.

Van Dijk and Mane could even be part of a quadruple winning team, if Liverpool manage to beat Manchester City to the title, as well as winning their cup finals, and Mane is in the running for the Ballon d'Or.

Ronaldo has still impressed at Manchester United this season, in his first year back in the league, despite the fact the team are doing terribly.
