Fan Falls One Goal Short Of £120,000 Win From £1 Bet

Atalanta's win in the Europa League on Thursday night left one punter just short of a brilliant night on his £1 accumulator, you'd be gutted

One football fan was left one goal short of winning around £120,000 on Thursday night, after his £1 acca so nearly landed in spectacular fashion.

There is little else as satisfying in life as getting a football accumulator correct, no matter if it isn't even winning you that much money.

After all, how many accas on a Saturday are ruined by stupidly backing the favourite in the afternoon's early kick off and having your entire bet screwed up before the 3pm games have even kicked off.

Well one gambler had to wait until the dying moments of the Europa League and Europa Conference League until finding out that one goal had cost him.

Twitter user Kyle Jaynes shared his betting slip from Thursday's games which shows he was one Atalanta goal from a near £120k payout, having stuck down a quid.

The Italian side hosted Olympiakos in the first knockout round of the Europa League and surprisingly fell behind, from Francisco Soares.

Atalanta did recover to win 2-1, thanks to a brace of goals from Berat Djimsiti in the space of two minutes, from 61st and 63rd minute goals.

However the hosts might have had a third late in the first half, when Luis Muriel and Matteo Pessina for what looked like the equaliser.

At that point the assistant referee's flag went up and the goal was ruled out for offside from an earlier moment leading up to the goal, which will now feel like a personal insult to Kyle.

Elsewhere in the Europa League last night there was the strange sight of seeing Barcelona dropping into European club football's secondary competition.

In what would normally be considered more of a Champions League tie, Xavi's side took on Serie A side Napoli, with the two sides drawing 1-1.

Ferran Torres was at the centre of all the drama at the Camp Nou, with the former Manchester City forward scoring Barca's equalising goal, from he penalty spot.

He ended the game in tears having missed some other chances and also bizarrely didn't have the club's logo on his shirt, something that took ages to get an explanation for.

Still though Ferran, at least you get to rectify your misses in Italy next week, some people won't have another chance to win £120,000...
