If only Paul Merson could be half as effective a pundit as he was a midfielder.
The Sky Sports pundit, who regularly keeps viewers wondering how he's got a job on TV with his inability to pronounce any non-English surname, has developed a reputation for making some wildly inaccurate predictions.

In fairness to Merson, it's not as though some of his predictions are that outlandish, they just seem to be terribly unlucky and ahead of Arsenal's trip to Southampton for their FA Cup fourth round clash at St.Mary's, the former Gunners' midfielder wasn't convinced even a strong Arsenal side would return from the South coast with a spot in the fifth round secured.

As for the strong starting XI that Merson alludes to in the above video, Arsene Wenger fielded a team that was without Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Petr Cech, Francis Coquelin, Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey or Nacho Monreal.
On top of that, a brace from Danny Welbeck and a Theo Walcott tap in have seen Arsenal head into half time in a 3-0 lead!
Arsene Wenger will be hoping Merson makes more negative predictions about his side in the second half of the season. The hapless Soccer Saturday pundit may even prove to be the good luck charm that brings the Gunners some silverware, this year.
