Can Man Utd get Arsenal in the Europa League round of 16 draw?

Can Man Utd get Arsenal in the Europa League round of 16 draw?

A look at who Man Utd and Arsenal can draw in the round of 16 stage of the Europa League.

Manchester United and Arsenal are both in Friday's Europa League round of 16 draw, which takes place at UEFA's headquarters in Switzerland. Can the two teams draw each other?

United booked their place in the draw courtesy of a 4-3 aggregate victory over Barcelona in the play-off round.

In what was seen as the tie of the round, it certainly did not disappoint, with Erik ten Hag's side coming back from 1-0 down in the second leg at Old Trafford to win 2-1.

It was another triumphant success for the Red Devils at home this season, with the stadium having not seen a United defeat in a competitive match since September.

Arsenal, meanwhile, qualified automatically for the round of 16 stage as Europa League group winners. Five wins from six games was enough to top a quartet of PSV, Bodo/Glimt and FC Zurich, with United settling for the runners-up spot behind Real Sociedad in their group.

Here is a look at the rules regarding whether United and Arsenal can draw each other later today.

Europa League draw: Can Man Utd and Arsenal draw each other?

No, Manchester United and Arsenal cannot be drawn against each other in the Europa League round of 16.

There are, however, no other limits when it comes to playing against a team from another association still left in the competition, or even those from the same group.

United, therefore, could face a third match of the campaign against Real Sociedad, having won and lost once to the Spanish opposition in the group stage.

Manchester United can face any of the seven non-English group winners, comprising of the following:

  • Fenerbahce (TUR)

  • Feyenoord (NED)
  • Freiburg (GER)
  • Real Betis (ESP)
  • Real Sociedad (ESP)
  • Union Saint-Gilloise (BEL)
