England's potential opponents in the Euro 2024 round of 16 has been narrowed down to just two teams.

The knockout stages of the 2024 European Championships kick off this weekend, with 16 of Europe's finest teams battling for a place in the quarter-finals.

Despite drawing their previous two matches against Denmark and Slovenia, England topped Group C with a total of five points.

The Three Lions must wait until the end of Wednesday night’s fixtures to learn their first knockout stage opponents.

But, following the conclusion of the final matches of Group E, England can now only face one of two teams, The Netherlands or Slovakia.

With both Slovakia v Romania and Ukraine v Belgium finishing as draws, Romania go through on top of Group E, followed by Belgium and Slovakia.

As the third-placed team of the group, Slovakia therefore could face England in the next round, if results in Wednesday evening’s Group F fixtures end in a certain way.

As it stands, England will face The Netherlands, who finished third in Group D.

But, this will change should Georgia best Portugal or Czehia beat Turkey by fewer than three goals in Group F.

Either of these two results would alter the rankings of the third-placed teams as Georgia or Turkey would qualify for the round of 16 ahead of Hungary.

Marco Rossi's side are currently fourth in the ranking of the six third-place teams.

While highly unlikely, if one of these results happen on Wednesday night, then England will instead face Slovakia in the round of 16.

England's next match will take place in the Arena AufSchalke, home of second-tier German side Schalke, on Sunday night.
