The time Trent Alexander-Arnold perfectly settled training ground argument with Jesse Lingard

What a hit.

We all know that the best way to solve an issue in football is to have a 'penny on it' but another acceptable solution is a crossbar challenge.

That's exactly what Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jesse Lingard did in England training after an argument back in 2018.

Lingard and Ruben Loftus-Cheek accused the then 20-year old of cheating in a small-sided game.

"Nah move out the way you," Lingard says to the Liverpool right-back. "You, cheating and that."

With both Lingard and Loftus-Cheek unhappy as they felt the ball went out, they refused to shake his hand despite Alexander-Arnold encouraging them to be graceful.

Then, as England's video shows, Lingard challenges his teammate to hit the crossbar from a quite ridiculous distance and says he'll shake his hand if he does so.

Unbelievable from @trentaa98! 😳

'TAA' comes up trumps, catching a sweet strike that cannons off the woodwork. Lingard's effort was wayward and he had no choice but to extend his hand to his colleague, laughing off the exchange.

The lads were clearly having a lot of fun under Gareth Southgate, evidenced by Kyle Walker mugging off Dele Alli with a new 'challenge' of his own during a gym session.

The then Spurs midfielder gets nutmegged, quickly closes his legs and then looks over at the camera. The camera then zooms in on his hilariously blank expression and the humiliation is there to see.

It follows on from Walker destroying then Leicester City defender Harry Maguire just a day earlier and posting it on social media for everyone to see. Like Alli, Maguire looked like his career had been ended there and then by his fellow Sheffield United youth product.
