Arsenal have been voted as having the worst atmosphere in the Premier League, according to the results of a survey conducted by Sky Bet ahead of the new season.

Sky Bet’s Fan Hope Survey asked over 1,500 fans to vote on which stadium had the worst atmosphere in England’s top division.

The Emirates has been notorious for being more of a tourist attraction than a football stadium at times and the Fan Hope survey suggests that Premier League fans still feel that way.

Arsenal's Emirates Stadium was voted as having the worst atmosphere by Premier League fans 😬

Conversely, Liverpool's Anfield (25%) was voted as having the best atmosphere in the league 📣

With the Gunners missing out on Champions League football last season to their bitter rivals Spurs, Arsenal fans haven’t had much to shout about in recent times. Whilst Arsenal fans seem to trust the process of Arteta, their fans aren’t making it clear during live games at home according to the fans that were surveyed.

The survey breaks down what each club’s fans voted for. Surprisingly, out of all the Arsenal fans that were surveyed, the Emirates came out as having the least atmosphere. It seems that even Arsenal’s own fans know that the lack of noise in their stadium is below Premier League standards.

Arsenal and West Ham fans were the only supporters where the majority voted for their own stadium as having the worst atmosphere.

There seemed to be a common theme with the top three stadiums in this list. Whilst the Emirates was voted in the dreaded first place, West Ham’s relatively new home, the London Stadium and Man City’s Etihad stadium came in second and third place respectively. Arsenal, West Ham and Man City have potentially had trouble in maintaining the atmosphere when moving to a new ground.

Once known for having one of the best atmosphere’s in the league, the Boleyn Ground’s hostile reception seems just a fond memory as the Hammers moved to a much bigger yet more welcoming stadium. Manchester City’s empty seats at the Etihad have been well documented and it seems that success on the pitch doesn’t always equate to a good atmosphere.

In contrast, Liverpool’s home, Anfield, was voted as having the best atmosphere. St James’ Park came second in the list and that was closely followed by Old Trafford in third place.

A huge part of this accolade for the red side of Merseyside is no doubt due to the famous anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ which is sung at the beginning of each game. In a recent interview, Man United legend Sir Alex Ferguson even paid homage to the hostile Anfield atmosphere with the Kop being one of the most famous stands in world football.
