Football League Club Make Request to EFL to Replay Game After Huge 'Referee Error'

Saturday's league fixture ended in a defeat.

Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough wants his side's game against Stockport County to be replayed after what he claims to be a referee error.

Mansfield entertained play-off chasing Stockport in their League One fixture on Saturday.

And the hosts, missing 10 players, got off to a great start when they opened the scoring in the 28th minute after Kyle Wootton converted into his own net.

But the visitors hit back just before the break through Ryan Sweeney (own-goal).

Stockport then won the game after Jack Diamond headed home in the 68th minute.

After the clash, Clough fumed at the officiating - in particular a moment in the first-half.

He bemoaned the match referee blowing up one minute early in the first-half, stating they were denied one minute of 'legitimate game-time'.

Clough later revealed his plans to ask the EFL to replay the game.

Asked for his overall thoughts on Mansfield's 2-1 defeat to Stockport, Clough replied: "We don't deserve to be empty-handed."

The 59-year-old added: "Decisions, decisions, decisions again are defining the results of our games at the moment. Unfortunately, they've gone against us again, similar to the Bolton game.

"We've given absolutely everything the players have today and played well, deserved at least a point from the game."

On the decisions that went against the Stags, Clough continued: "Well, we were denied a minute of legitimate game-time at the end of the first-half, where he made a grave error in blowing up one minute early.

"So, we'll ask the EFL if they'll replay the game because anything can happen in a minute. Somebody can be sent off... you can score two goals. So, to be denied 60 seconds of legitimate game-time is extremely concerning."

The chances of the EFL replaying Mansfield vs. Stockport are extremely slim given there is no precedent of such situation.

The defeat leaves Mansfield in the relegation zone as they currently occupy 21st, with 23 points on the board from 20 games.

Stockport, on the other hand, hold a spot in a play-off position. They sit in fifth place, with 35 points to their name in the League One table.
