Man Utd set to hold talks with Dean Henderson after David de Gea blunder as goalkeeping plans revealed

Man Utd set to hold talks with Dean Henderson after David de Gea blunder as goalkeeping plans revealed

Could there be a lifeline to his Man Utd career?

Manchester United are set to hold talks with Dean Henderson over the goalkeeper’s Old Trafford future, according to reports.

David de Gea has been a mainstay in the Manchester United goal for over a decade, yet questions are beginning to be asked regarding his future.

On Sunday the Spaniard made a costly mistake to gift Said Benrahma a goal which proved to be a winner for West Ham. Indeed, the 1-0 defeat against the Premier League strugglers has seen United’s hopes of claiming a top-four finish seriously compromised.

De Gea’s blunder was his fourth in all competitions this season - the joint most of any Premier League player, along with Hugo Lloris.

While the 32-year-old is in talks to commit his long-term future to United on a reduced basic wage, with increased performance-related bonuses, for many fans and pundits his latest error may have been one mistake too many.

Man Utd in talks with Henderson?

According to ESPN De Gea has been given no guarantees he will be Erik ten Hag's first-choice goalkeeper next season.

United’s recruitment team have allegedly put together a list of goalkeepers to monitor including David Raya at Brentford and Diogo Costa at Porto.

However, the publication has claimed United are also set to hold talks with Henderson, who has spent the season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Henderson is expected to be fit to return to United pre-season training in July, having undergone surgery on a thigh injury.

And while the 26-year-old has a contract at Old Trafford until 2025, he is thought to be of interest to several clubs in the Premier League and abroad ahead of the summer window.

Of course, despite De Gea’s recent spate of errors and inability to play out from the back, Ten Hag has allegedly not ruled out De Gea starting the next campaign as No.1, particularly if the bulk of his transfer budget is used on other areas of the squad.
