Fans are calling Dario Benedetto's penalty the worst ever in a shootout and you can see why. He won't want to see this again.

The Boca Juniors striker had the chance to send his team through to the next round of the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

But he completely fluffed his lines from the spot, spectacularly blazing the ball over the bar.

He stepped up and smashed his spot-kick into the stands, with Corinthians eventually securing a 6-5 penalty shootout victory.

Benedetto's penalty was nowhere near the net, with some fans believing it's the worst spot-kick they've ever seen in a shootout.

One tweeted: "Actually impressive just how awful that pen is… can’t remember the last time I saw the ball go that high from a pen."

A second wrote: "One of the worst penalties I’ve ever seen."

A third added: "How do you even do that?"

Another joked: "it’s so bad that it’s actually fascinating. I'm impressed at how bad it is."

To make matters worse, Benedetto also hit the post from a penalty during the game and missed a sitter before the shootout.

To further rub salt in the wound, Corinthians ruthlessly trolled the striker on social media after the match.

They posted an image of a mock membership card from their fan club with his photo and name printed on it.
