And it appears he has found a suitor in Atleti after Bayern Munich rejected the chance to snap up the superstar forward.

That's according to Spanish outlet Diario AS, who claim Ronaldo has convinced Simeone to sign him during the transfer window.

The report claims the player's representatives held discussions with the Argentine boss and persuaded him to bring Ronaldo back to the La Liga.

If the move comes to fruition, then it'll come as a bombshell transfer considering Ronaldo's legendary spell at arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Ronaldo scored 450 goals during his ultra-prolific time at the club and beat Atleti in not one but TWO Champions League finals, making him a hated figure in the red and white side of Madrid.

But he now could be about to call the Metropolitano Stadium home in a sensational turn of events.

The reported move to Atleti comes after Ronaldo had been linked with a stunning transfer back to Sporting CP.

But the five-time Ballon d'Or winner shut down rumours linking him with his hometown club, branding the report as 'fake' on social media.

Ronaldo still has another year to run on his current contract, but is yet to report for pre-season training.

He's absent from the club's tour of Australia as he figures out of the next move of his legendary career.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions last season as he enjoyed yet another prolific campaign.

Will he sign for Atleti? Watch this space.
