Cristiano Ronaldo claims Saudi Pro League will be in the top five leagues in the world

Cristiano Ronaldo made an incredible statement about the Saudi Pro League after his latest goal for Al Nassr earned them a win.

Ronaldo helped keep Al Nassr's title hopes alive on Tuesday night as they came from behind against Al Shabab to earn all three points.

The 38-year-old scored a brilliant goal just before the hour mark which proved to be the winner in the 3-2 result, which kept the side three points behind rivals Al Ittihad with just two games left of the campaign.

Al Nassr fans were delighted with the former Manchester United striker as he appeared to celebrate by doing a Sujud bow on the pitch.

Ronaldo has now given some major props to the Saudi Pro League, claiming it will soon be in the top five leagues in the world, as you can see in the video below.

"We are much better and the Saudi league is getting better and next year will be even better," the striker said in his post match interview.

"Step-by-step I think this league will be among the top five leagues in the world but they need time, players and infrastructure.

"But I believe that this country [has] amazing potential, they have amazing people and the league will be great in my opinion."

Europe's big five leagues, the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 are generally considered the biggest in the world.

It would take a hell of a lot for the Saudi league to overtake any of them, the Chinese Super League and Major League Soccer have both heavily invested in big name signings in recent years but still came nowhere close.

Saudi Arabia could soon boast the two biggest names in world football however, with Lionel Messi linked with a move to the country.

He isn't the only one, with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba also rumoured to be targets, potentially to convince Messi to also join his mates.

Despite his goals helping to keep his side in the title race in the Saudi Pro League, the Portugal superstar's time in the Middle East has not gone perfectly by any means.

He was mocked by a former Al Nassr player for his goal celebration recently and the fact that the club had been knocked out of the cup.

He also had a Saudi lawyer calling for him to be arrested after appearing to make an obscene gesture towards some opposition fans.
