Real Sociedad's mascot wasted absolutely no time in mocking Cristiano Ronaldo after Manchester United's disappointing result against the Spanish side on Thursday night.

United won 1-0 in Spain thanks to Alejandro Garnacho's first goal for the club.

But it was not enough for the Premier League side, who needed to win by at least two goals to finish top of their Europa League group.

Having failed to find the second goal, United finished behind Sociedad on goal difference alone and will now head into the Europa League knockout play-offs instead of receiving a bye to the last 16.

Erik ten Hag's side will now have to play a two-legged tie against a team that has dropped down into the competition from the Champions League, and could face the likes of Ajax, Barcelona and Juventus.

While it was a disappointing final result for United, Garnacho's superb first-half was at least one positive to take from the evening.

After scoring, the young Argentine copied Ronaldo's latest celebration, but only after asking the five-time Ballon d'Or winner for permission first.

And Garnacho was not the only one imitating the Portuguese superstar.

After the match, Real Sociedad's mascot could be seen performing Ronaldo's trademark 'Siu' celebration in front of the home supporters.

Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst posted a video of the home mascot performing the celebration to Twitter, alongside the caption: "Some stellar schadenfreude/shithousery from the Real Sociedad mascot, who is celebrating by siiiiuing."

Some fans saw the funny side of the mascot's antics, with one commenting on Twitter: "You gotta laugh at the Sociedad mascot gesture."

"This is actually funny," added another.

While a third wrote: "Sociedad celebrating that 1-0 loss with their mascot doing Sius is just perfect."

But some United supporters failed to find it amusing.

"Hope we face them again later in the competition," commented one fan.

While another added: "This is their biggest achievement in their club history. Beating Man Utd to 1st place."

United will learn who their next opponents in Europe are when the draw for the Europa League knockout stage is held on Monday.

Up first for the Red Devils, however, is a trip to face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
