Cristiano Ronaldo eats lunch alone in the canteen on some days and has been seen 'flapping his arms' about in training, according to stunning reports.

He's also attempting to argue against the high-pressing approach favoured by Erik ten Hag amid intense speculation regarding his Manchester United future.

Several sources close to the club argued that Ronaldo has been afforded greater leeway than his club colleagues and indulged beyond the contribution he is currently providing to the team, per The Athletic.

The 37-year-old has been pushing for a move away from Old Trafford, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain briefly linked with the superstar forward.

But no deal has yet to be struck ahead of the transfer deadline day as Ronaldo was restored to the starting XI against Brentford last weekend.

Though he failed to make an influence as the Red Devils suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Ten Hag's team are rooted to the bottom of the league following their back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

And he made his feelings known in his post-match interview, stating higher standards need to be met.

"It’s quite clear," the Dutchman told beIN Sports. "It’s rubbish. It’s poor and we need higher standards than that and it’s clear."

He added: "I can bring up several things but that looks like excuses. And that is not there in the top we have to deliver and we didn’t do.

"We have to change that’s quite clear we have to start better both games we have to stick to the plan and from the first start we have to switch on and that’s what we didn’t do.

"You start the game and you make individual mistakes but you make sure one mistake can happen but a second, third mistake is not acceptable. Players must know that.

"Pressure is always there I know that I have to analyse and find solutions, that’s my job."
