Cristiano Ronaldo has asked to leave Manchester United, but is running out of options after two clubs pull out of the race to sign the Portuguese mega star.

Ronaldo made a stunning return to Old Trafford last summer from Juventus, but his return could not energise the team.

United were knocked out of the domestic cups and the Champions League in the early rounds. And their Premier League form was woeful. They ended the season sixth after collecting the club’s lowest ever points tally in the Premier League era.

Despite the team having an extremely poor season, Ronaldo had a decent campaign on a personal level. He ended the season as the club's top goal scorer with 24 goals across all competitions, his 18 Premier League goals were only bettered by joint Golden Boot winner Son Heung Min and Mohamed Salah. Ronaldo was also named in the PFA Team of The Year.

And on the back of the dismal 21/22 campaign which saw United stumble to a place in the Europa League instead of the Champions League, Ronaldo feels the time is right to leave Old Trafford for the second time in his stellar career.

Many clubs around the globe would want to add Ronaldo to their ranks but only a handful will be able to match both the Portuguese’s ambition and sky high wages.

Chelsea are one of the heavy favourites after news emerged last month that Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes met with Chelsea co owner Todd Boehly, the pair discussed a potential transfer during their meeting.

Despite that, it seems the chance for Ronaldo to move to Stamford Bridge is very slim, manager Thomas Tuchel is believed to be not too keen on the idea of Ronaldo joining the Blues, and with a deal for Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling imminent, it looks like Ronaldo will not be moving to Chelsea.

Bayern Munich were believed to be in the running, the German champions could potentially lose front man Robert Lewandowski and Ronaldo would have been a perfect replacement.

Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus told Sky Germany: “Ronaldo to Bayern would be sexy!”

But the Bavarian club’s chief executive, Oliver Kahn has now confirmed his club will not be pursuing a deal for Ronaldo.

He told German news outlet Kicker: “As much as I appreciate Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the greatest, a transfer would not fit into our philosophy.”

With Chelsea and Bayern seemingly out of the running, it leaves Ronaldo with just four options.

A return to Spain could be on the cards, Barcelona and Real Madrid will hold interests but it is currently unsure whether they will be able to make a deal happen.

Juventus could tempt Ronaldo back again but the main stumbling block will be the overall cost.

And lastly, could Ronaldo team up with Lionel Messi? A move to Paris Saint Germain could be on the cards if the French champions sell Neymar.

All eyes will now be firmly fixed on Ronaldo as the football world waits for his next move with great anticipation.
