Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has responded to the explosive interview given by Cristiano Ronaldo to Piers Morgan.

The interview, which will air on TalkTV's 'Piers Uncensored' show on Wednesday and Thursday evening, has already created mass controversy.

During the segments released by Morgan prior to the full interview, as well as quotes released by The Sun, Ronaldo has criticised United club legends Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney, claimed he feels 'betrayed' by some members of the United hierarchy, and questioned the appointment of Ralf Rangnick, describing him as 'not even a coach'.

He also hit out at current boss Erik ten Hag: "I don't have respect for him because he doesn't show respect for me. If you don't have respect for me, I'm never gonna have respect for you."

So far, most United players have refused to publicly respond to the interview, with Victor Lindelof not commenting when asked by the Swedish press.

Raphael Varane, meanwhile, told French radio station Europe1: "Obviously it affects us. We follow what is happening, and what is being said."

Now, Lingard, who played alongside Ronaldo at the Red Devils before joining Nottingham Forest on a free transfer last summer, has given his response.

Lingard told talkSPORT (quotes via Nottingham Post): "It's his situation, you know what I mean? I dealt with my own situation with the club [Man United].

"Also we kept it behind closed doors. Still ended on good terms, of course, I still support the club.

"That's his situation. I don't know what's been said or what's happened between him and the manager.

"That's not my place to say. I can't really comment on something I don't know too much of. Like I say, it's his situation and that's how he's dealing with it.

"Football's crazy sometimes. Probably the greatest player in the world, you know what I mean? So he must be hurting.

"But I can't comment on that situation at the moment."

Part one of Cristiano Ronaldo's interview with Piers Morgan, 90 Minutes With Ronaldo, will commence on TalkTV at 8pm on Wednesday, with the remainder of the interview to be broadcast tomorrow.
