Kylian Mbappe got the fright of his life after Cristian Romero yelled in his face during the World Cup final.

Footage has emerged on social media showing the Argentinian defender screaming at Mbappe in the middle of the game, leaving the Frenchman running for his life.

In the viral clip, the context of the fiery interaction remains unknown – although fans are now saying it was revenge for Romero's Tottenham teammate Harry Kane.

In the aftermath of the World Cup final in Qatar, various videos have emerged and spread like wildfire on social media.

From Lionel Messi snubbing Salt Bae to the wild celebrations erupting across Argentina, plenty of random things have been doing the rounds online.

A viewer watching the final from the comfort of their home noticed a moment during the final where Romero got in Mbappe's face and started screaming from the bottom of his lungs.

Clearly taken back by Romero's advances, Mbappe appeared to flee before Romero chased him down again.

In the video posted to Twitter, the scoreboard and clock is cut off, so we're unable to work out when exactly this occurred within the 120 minutes of action.

That aside, fans are all saying the same thing, wondering whether Romero's act was revenge for his Spurs teammate Kane.

Of course, Mbappe made headlines around the world after he was seen laughing in Kane's direction after the England captain skied his penalty in the quarter-final clash with France.

In response to the original video, one person tweeted: "Romero taking revenge for his club captain."

While another replied: "Giving him some back for Harry."

As a third added: "Love him for this."

Meanwhile, others pointed out Mbappe's reaction, saying he "s**t his pants".

If it was - in fact - to avenge his club captain, then fair play to Romero.

On the other hand, if it was purely scare tactics, then fair play again as it clearly worked.

Either way, football fans appeared to absolutely love it, many of whom calling it 'pure s**thousery'.
