Christian Pulisic told he's 'overrated' and 'cannot be trusted'

Christian Pulisic told he's 'overrated' and 'cannot be trusted'

Pulisic has been slammed by a former USMNT international.

Christian Pulisic cannot be trusted by the USMNT ahead of this winter's World Cup in Qatar, according to a former international.

The USMNT didn't score in either game during this month's international break. Gregg Berhalter's side slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Japan on Friday then drew 0-0 with Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

Captain Pulisic only featured in the stalemate with Saudi Arabia, failing to have much of an impact.

Brian Dunseth delivered a scathing take on his SiriusXM podcast, Week in the Tackle, claiming the Chelsea winger isn't reliable in big moments.

"You can't trust Pulisic," he declared. "As much as you want to believe in Pulisic, as much as he's been hyped to be the everything that everybody thinks he can be or wants him to be, the reality is he's not.

"He's a really good player but he is a complimentary piece. He is not a focal point and that's what people have to understand."

Pulisic's last international goals came against Panama in March when he scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 win.

The 24-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Chelsea and attempted to leave the club during the summer.

Ex-New England Revolution defender Dunseth thinks Pulisic is becoming a bit-part player rather than someone who sets the tone, using Denmark star Christian Eriksen as an example.

Manchester United midfielder Eriksen put on a masterclass in his nation's 2-0 win over World Cup holders France on Sunday evening.

He continued: "Christian Pulisic makes your team better but Christian Pulisic isn't going to be the guy that is the Christian Eriksen of the US men's national team.

"[The guy] that becomes the tempo player, the connecting player, the guy that's going to create something out of nothing, the guy that's going to hit a final pass every single time or is capable of the final pass every single time."

Pulisic has 52 caps for the USMNT and 26 goals to his name. His nickname is 'Captain America' after a string of fine performances since debuting in 2016.

The USMNT is in Group B at the World Cup, alongside England, Iran, and Wales. They face Wales in their opening game on November 21.
