Christian Eriksen has scored his first goal for Manchester United in this afternoon's clash with Fulham.

The Red Devils arrived at Craven Cottage on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa in their last Premier League game.

United manager Erik ten Hag only named eight players on the bench, with several first-team players injured or suspended.

In attack, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho are ill, while Antony is still recovering from a slight knock.

It didn't stop them from taking the lead inside 14 minutes, although the goal came from an unlikely source.

Anthony Martial received the ball in the middle of the park and dribbled towards the Fulham backline.

He spotted Bruno Fernandes' run into the box, laying the ball off to his captain. Fernandes then turned the ball towards goal, which Eriksen tapped home with ease.

It's unknown if Fernandes was going for goal himself or teeing up his fellow midfielder, but all he'll care about is the ball ending up in the back of the net.

Eriksen was swarmed by his United teammates in celebration after a fine start to life at the club.

The 30-year-old made an emotional return to Premier League action with Brentford earlier this year after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark against Finland at Euro 2020.

Eriksen had an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) fitted, which prohibited him from playing for Inter Milan, his club at the time, in Serie A.

Brentford offered him a six-month deal to return to English football, where he'd played for Tottenham Hotspur between 2013 and 2020.

The former Ajax man impressed, which saw a number of other Premier League outfits enquire about his signature upon the expiry of his contract.

He decided to join United and has since made 19 appearances in all competitions.

United forward Marcus Rashford praised Eriksen following Thursday's 4-2 win over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup.

He told Sky Sports: "It’s the quality in the passes, the calmness, he’s a top player.

"We’re always making runs at a high tempo. We need someone on the ball who can just slow it down and see the picture and play the passes.

"His [Eriksen’s] technical ability is the same as Bruno on the ball and we just have to give them options. We have to make runs and we have to have that belief that they’ll find us.

"I think we have had that this season, not very game it’s come off but the more times we make the options the more times it’s going to come off."
