Kai Havertz’s individual highlights against Brentford are worrying, he is struggling at Chelsea

The German failed to impress.

Kai Havertz is regarded as one of the biggest talents in world football, but his recent form will be a worrying sign for Chelsea.

The German came through the ranks at Bayer Leverkusen and caught the eyes of many after breaking into the first team in 2016.

Havertz scored 20 goals in the 18/19 season, followed by 18 in 19/20. After a string of impressive performances, Havertz signed for Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £62 million, which could rise to £71 million.

Since joining the Stamford Bridge club, he has shown glimpses of what he is capable of but has never really set the world alight with his performances. Havertz famously scored the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final.

This season, however, has been a tough one so far for the 23-year-old. Chelsea have endured a turbulent campaign after sacking Thomas Tuchel last month, Havertz was a regular under the German manager and now has to impress new boss Graham Potter.

Havertz has only scored twice in 14 matches and his form is starting to become a worry for Chelsea fans. His performance against Brentford during the 0-0 draw on Wednesday showed he is a player in need of a boost in confidence.

Everything Havertz tried to do didn’t really come off, his touches were heavy and his general movements were slow and lethargic.

Fans were quick to react to Havertz’s ‘disasterclass’ on social media.

One fan said: “In the time that it takes Kai Havertz to turn with the ball, you could get a master’s degree in cybersecurity and even a job afterwards.”

Another tweeted: “Didn't think Kai Havertz would go off...largely because I (genuinely) forgot he was on the pitch.”

A third fan added: “Not turning my back on Kai Havertz but I think it's time for him to find another club.”

Someone else commented: “A UCL final goal can only get you so far. Kai Havertz…”

Worrying times for Havertz as he needs to pick up his form if he is to have a future at Chelsea, however, at just 23 years old, time is well on his side and it would be foolish to write him off so soon.
