‘PotterOut’ trends after just one game after Chelsea’s disappointing draw against RB Salzburg

‘#PotterOut’ is already trending on social media after Graham Potter’s first game in charge of Chelsea ended in a bitterly disappointing 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg.

Thomas Tuchel was sacked after the Blues lost 1-0 last week in their Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb.

In his first game in charge at Stamford Bridge, Potter made three changes to Tuchel’s last Chelsea starting eleven.

After a cagey first half, the hosts took the lead thanks to a goal by summer signing Raheem Sterling in the 48th minute.

However, they were unable to hold onto their advantage as Salzburg star Noah Okafor equalised for the visitors with 15 minutes left to play.

In a bid to chase the go ahead goal, Potter brought on the likes of Conor Gallagher, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic in the closing stages but they were unable to break down the stubborn Salzburg defence.

As a result of the draw, Chelsea find themselves bottom of Group E after collecting just one point from a possible six.

After the match, ‘#PotterOut’ started trending on Twitter as fans expressed their frustrations.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Potter expressed his disappointment.

He said: “We’re disappointed with the result. We scored a good goal, but lost a bit in the second half but their goalkeeper has made some good saves.

“It is what it is, we have to dust ourselves down. Personality and application was good, we will get better.”

“It’s always irritating when you concede a goal. Overall the defensive performance was quite good, it’s just the little details we will have to improve.”

Potter added: “It has not been easy for the boys, they have responded to us really well over the last few days and it’s a point we will have to take and get better.

“The attitude has been fantastic, no complaints apart from the fact we have not taken three points.”

With Chelsea’s match against Liverpool this Sunday postponed and the international break coming up, Potter will have until 1 October to get his ideas across as he prepares his side for a Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

Will Potter be a success at Chelsea? Only time will tell.
