After their dramatic win against Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea fans are convinced they will go all the way to the Champions League final this season.

On Tuesday night, Graham Potter’s side headed into the second leg at Stamford Bridge with work to do after Karim Adeyemi’s goal sealed a 1-0 win for Dortmund in the first leg.

Chelsea were on top from the get-go as they chased the goal to level the tie, Raheem Sterling netted just before half time to settle the nerves surrounding Stamford Bridge.

In the second period, Chelsea were given the chance to go ahead on aggregate after full-back Marius Wolf was penalised for handling Ben Chilwell’s cross.

Kai Havertz stepped up and hit the post with his penalty but after a VAR check, the German was given another chance after encroachment from Dortmund players.

Havertz made no mistake on his second attempt, putting Chelsea 2-0 up on the night and 2-1 up on aggregate.

The Blues held on and secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After the match, Chelsea fans have come up with the theory that they will reach the Champions League final after discovering the Dortmund curse.

However, the likelihood is that Chelsea will lose in the final as every team that has knocked Dortmund out of an European competition in the last four years have gone on to lose in the final.

In 2019, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur beat Dortmund in the Champions League but lost to Liverpool in the final.

A year later Paris Saint Germain were on the end of the curse as they lost to Bayern Munich. Manchester City lost to Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final after beating Dortmund en route to the showdown.

Last year, Rangers’ spectacular Europa League run ended with heartbreak after losing to Eintracht Frankfurt in the final, the Scottish club shocked Dortmund in the last 32.

How far can Chelsea go this season? Only time will tell.
