Armando Broja let out a haunting scream after suffering 'serious injury' in Chelsea friendly

The 21-year-old was stretchered off.

Armando Broja suffered what appears to be a serious injury in Chelsea's 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in a mid-season friendly on Sunday.

John McGinn's early goal in the first half was enough to separate the two sides as they prepare to resume Premier League action later this month.

Broja started the game as the Blues' striker, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the left wing and Kai Havertz still away following Germany's World Cup elimination.

The 21-year-old ended up going off on a stretcher after a collision with Villa defender Ezri Konsa.

Broja pressed Konsa, who retreated into his own box while in possession of the ball. The Albania international attempted to snatch the ball from the defender seconds, although what happened next was distressing.

As he did that, he planted his standing foot into the ground. Broja immediately collapsed to the ground, letting out an audible scream.

Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen checked on Broja before calling the Chelsea medical team over.

Throughout it all were Broja's incredibly haunting screams. Check out the video below.

Per The Guardian, Broja's injury is likely a serious one to his knee. Chelsea manager Graham Potter told the club's official website: "I think he got caught up with their player and the ground.

"It doesn't look positive at the moment, but it is too early to say. Fingers crossed, but it is an awkward one."

Broja joined Chelsea's youth setup at nine years old after spending his early life at Tottenham Hotspur.

He made headlines earlier this year after admitting his parents didn't know who Spurs were when they initially started talks.

Last season, Broja impressed on loan at Southampton. He's since returned to Stamford Bridge, scoring once in 12 appearances.

Chelsea lost three games in a row before the World Cup break and currently sit eighth in the table.

They return after the break against Bournemouth on December 27.

Full-back duo Reece James and Ben Chilwell missed out on places in England's World Cup squad due to injury, while N'Golo Kante is a long-term absentee.
