According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the two-time Champions League winners are in advanced negotiations with Leipzig over Gvardiol, who can play as a centre-back or left-back.
The Croatian has developed into one of the most sought-after defensive talents in the world after a fine debut season in Germany.

The 20-year-old, formerly on Dinamo Zagreb, played 46 times as Leipzig won the DFB-Pokal and reached the Europa League semi-finals.

Chelsea have submitted a substantial offer but the deal would not be one to be completed before Thursday's transfer deadline.
Gvardiol, who appears to be a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva, would be staying put for now and join up with Chelsea in June 2023.
The west London club have already been involved in business with the Red Bull outfit this summer, having allowed Timo Werner to head back to Leipzig for a fee of £25.3 million.
Chelsea have been incredibly prolific in the transfer market and are closing in on the signing of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana for £70 million, with the young Frenchman flying to New York to undergo a medical.
Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly was drafted in for a fee in the region of £33 million, while Chelsea also snapped up Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £63 million and Raheem Sterling for £47.5 million.

18-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka was also acquired in a £20 million transfer.
