Bayern Munich have opened discussions in a bid to land their "top target" in the summer transfer window, reports claim.

The Bavarians are going well under Vincent Kompany, topping the Bundesliga table by 12 points and looking likely to retain their crown.

Bayern also have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals, having drawn first blood in the quarter-final clash with a 2-1 win away at Real Madrid last week.

But the German giants are still looking to add to their talented squad in the summer, with Sky Sport Germany reporting that they want to give Harry Kane another England teammate to link up with.

According to information obtained by journalists Florian Plettenberg and Luca Sixtus, Bayern are desperate to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

Bayern are looking for a new left winger to challenge former Liverpool striker Luis Diaz for a starting berth and see Gordon as the perfect candidate.

They want a "high-caliber attacking player" who can play in a number of positions, with Gordon fitting the bill as he is also able to play as a central striker.

Only Kane and Kylian Mbappe have scored more goals in this season's Champions League campaign than Gordon, who scored 10 goals in 12 games for the Magpies.

He is contracted to Newcastle until 2030 and does not have a release clause in his contract. But with Newcastle unlikely to be in European football next season, Gordon could look for a big move away.

£52 million has been touted as a potential transfer fee, slightly more than the £45 million Newcastle paid to sign him from Everton in 2023.

Bayern have already held "very concrete talks" with Gordon's camp over a stunning summer switch - though the two clubs have not yet been involved in any type of discussions.

After talisman Alexander Isak left for Liverpool in a £125 million deal, Newcastle will be desperate to not lose another star man for the second consecutive summer window.

Gordon, who has 17 goals in all competitions this season, is expected to be part of Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the World Cup and any contributions in the tournament could see his transfer value increase significantly.
